Manhattan Beach Little League and softball games are officially under way now, with the practice games finished and competitive leagues beginning to keep score "for real."
As the season rolls out, here at DigMB we'll continue our feature, "This Week in Manhattan Beach Baseball." Any DigMB reader can submit photos and information for the weekly post. We have a very simple web form for submissions: http://bit.ly/mbllweek. Just use that link, enter your name & email, type (or paste in) a little recap of an exciting game, and attach any photos or video files. DigMB will do the rest to include it in the week's news.
In this week's action, the Detroit Stars beat the Crawfords on Wednesday 18-6 at Marine Center in five innings. The Stars scored six runs in the fourth on a passed ball, an RBI single by Lucas Magnotta, a two-run single by Trey Thomas, an RBI single by Taylor Bennett, and an RBI single by Brodie Fix.
Taylor also got it done on the hill on the way to a win. She allowed two runs over 2 1/3 innings. She struck out four, walked one and surrendered two hits.
The Stars never trailed after scoring three runs in the first on an RBI single by Taylor. They piled on three more runs in the top of the third. Jack Clarke's single got things going, bringing home Lucas. That was followed up by Taylor's double, plating Jack.
Four runs in the bottom of the third helped the Crawfords close its deficit to 6-5. A two-run single by Finn Foster and a two-run single by Jack Wood triggered Crawfords' comeback. Finally, James Moffett induced an inning-ending strike out from Curran Hedges.
Trey Thomas closed out the fifth inning on the hill giving up no runs, no hits, one K and a walk.
Alex Katsuyama was awarded the game ball for a great catch in the fifth inning and his perfection at the plate season to date.(Season stats 3-for-3 with 6 walks)
