Manhattan Beach Toyota to Hold Gala Re-Opening

Dec 03, 2016 08:17PM ● By Jeanne Fratello
After an extensive remodel, the brand new Manhattan Beach Toyota facility will open its doors to the community for a gala celebration on Monday, December 5.

The party will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and will include a ribbon cutting, a special presentation by Toyota, and music and entertainment.

More than 300 guests are expected to attend, including members of the Manhattan Beach City Council, representatives from Toyota Motor Sales USA, the Manhattan Beach Police and Fire Departments, the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce and Rotary Club, Mira Costa High School, and local business leaders.

The remodel, extending over the 5.6-acre site at 1500 North Sepulveda in Manhattan Beach, features an entirely new showroom, customer service areas, parts center, service department and executive offices totaling 29,641 square feet.

The new building features energy-efficient products and designs, and was built with a LEED-accredited professional on site. Drought-resistant agriculture, indoor and outdoor LED lighting operated by a computerized control system, glass specifically designed to maintain a comfortable interior temperature, computerized air conditioning systems with air economizers to bring the outside air into the building and low-emitting materials are all part of the new dealership building. Water-waste reduction measures were taken, such as low-flow toilets, automatic faucets and a car wash system that recycles water.

The project is testament to the late owner Darrell Sperber’s vision and commitment to Toyota, according to Sperber's family members. “My father green-lighted the entire remodel of the facility. It is something that would have made him proud.” said his son, Brad Sperber.

The new building has served as a draw for both customers and employees of Manhattan Beach Toyota, according to company officials. The dealership services more than 125 vehicles a day in its maintenance department, and sales of new Toyota vehicles at the dealership have increased year-over-year 13.35%.

“Since moving into the new building, the dealership has had its all-time record-breaking sales month in July,” said General Manager Ron Vartanian. “Toyota is an incredible organization to work for and we are proud to be a part of this.”

Andrisa Sperber, daughter-in-law to Darrell Sperber and head of marketing for the company, added that the dealership is deeply rooted in the South Bay community. “We have a unique advantage here. The dealership is the only one within the city limits of Manhattan Beach,” she said. “With this opportunity, there’s also a responsibility and honor to reach out, give back and provide small business leadership in Manhattan Beach.”

The Sperber family legacy at Toyota began in 2007, when Darrell Sperber entered into a business partnership with Denver Bronco football legend John Elway. Under that ownership, the dealership opened as John Elway’s Manhattan Beach Toyota. In 2013, Sperber bought out Elway’s interest in the store, amicably ending the partnership.

Over the years, Manhattan Beach Toyota became synonymous with Sperber, who took an enthusiastic and active leadership role in Manhattan Beach community efforts. Sperber passed away in January 2015. He was honored posthumously with the 2016 Bob Meistrell Local Legend Award at the Chamber of Commerce’s annual 'Best of Manhattan' awards in October.
