Event Brings Ocean Science Programming to Kids
The event is a result of the bookstore, the aquarium, and the author partnering together
to bring ocean science programming to K-3 students who are at home during the
COVID-19 pandemic.
“We strongly believe in finding ways to inspire reading and literacy in
our community," said Linda McLoughlin Figel, owner of pages: a bookstore. "The Roundhouse Aquarium and Seth Fishman are good neighbors and pages is excited to work with local partners, especially during this pandemic. We’re all in this together and this
collaboration allows us to offer the community a new dimension to learning
science and reading."
Fishman is an L.A.-based author and literary agent who also authored the childrens' book, "A Hundred Billion Trillion Stars." The book "The Ocean in Your Bathtub" was released on May 19. ("Finally, my last name makes sense for a kid born in west Texas," quipped Fishman.)
“When we think of oceans, usually we think of big animals like orcas, but the oceans are so much more," said Fishman. "We are connected to it in so many ways - and how better to teach children about the ocean than to have this partnership with pages and the Roundhouse Aquarium. What binds us together is a common desire to teach children and adults about our profound connection to one another and the big wide ocean."
