Nominations Sought for Mira Costa Alumni Hall of Fame

May 21, 2022 09:45AM ● By Mb News Staff
We know there are outstanding Mira Costa alumni out there... Now's the chance to nominate the alumni you most respect for the 2022 Mira Costa Alumni Hall of Fame.

In 2012, Mira Costa established its Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame to honor those alumni who have made significant contributions to the high school, community, country, and society.

Each year, the MCHS Distinguished Alumni Recognition Committee selects outstanding alumni and honors them with a Hall of Fame distinction.

This year's honorees will be celebrated in fall 2022 on Hall of Fame Day, which will include recognition at a student body assembly, a Hall of Fame induction reception, and introduction at a Mira Costa home football game. They will take their place in a permanent display of honorees.

Past honorees have included Brigadier General Homer Johnstone (Class of 1953), California surfing pioneer Dewey Weber (Class of 1956), former mayor and Body Glove president Russ Lesser (Class of 1958), founder of Spyder Surfboards Dennis Jarvis (Class of 1977), world-renowned jazz pianist David Benoit (Class of 1971), builder Kim Komick (Class of 1979), sportscaster Michele Tafoya (Class of 1983), Olympic volleyball players Eric Fonoimoana and Holly McPeak (both Class of 1987), and actress Rachel Bloom (Class of 2005).

Hall of Fame Selection Process

Distinguished alumni will be selected by the MCHS Distinguished Alumni Recognition Committee for notable contributions to the arts; sciences; education; athletics; entertainment; social, environmental, and business management; and/or exemplary service to their communities and country.

  • Incomplete nominations will not be considered.
  • Nominations are due May 27, 2022. Selections will be made in May and the recipients will be notified no later than the end of June.
