Accident Results in Hourlong Shutdown of Northbound Sepulveda in Manhattan Beach

Oct 20, 2022 10:16AM ● By Mb News Staff
Just after 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, a dramatic traffic collision at 6th Street and Sepulveda resulted in a more than hour-long closure of the northbound lanes.

According to a witness who was driving northbound on Sepulveda near the site, the accident appeared to occur when two northbound lanes of traffic were largely stopped, but the third, easternmost lane, was still moving. The driver of a Toyota Highlander attempted to turn left from the southbound portion of Sepulveda onto 6th St. across the open lane.

A Dodge sedan slammed into the passenger side of the Highlander, rolling it onto its side and pushing it up onto the corner at 6th and Sepulveda, where it toppled a stop sign.

While emergency services were called, several civilians rushed to the site to see if anyone needed help. The driver of the Dodge was quickly out of the car, walking around. One person hopped on top of the Highlander to open the passenger-side door and communicate with the driver.

Police, fire and ambulance services arrived within two minutes of the collision, and within moments both drivers were safe and offered treatment. It appeared that no passengers were in either vehicle, and that any injuries were minor, thanks to both vehicles' airbag systems deploying.

Northbound Sepulveda traffic was shut down between 2nd and 8th Streets from approximately 3:30 p.m. until after 4:30 p.m. The stop sign at that corner remains down.
