A DUI checkpoint in Manhattan Beach on Friday night yielded arrests for DUI drivers as well as tickets and vehicle impounds.

The Manhattan Beach Police Department held a DUI checkpoint on July 21 at Manhattan Beach Blvd. and John Street, screening a total of 780 drivers.

Of the drivers screened, the MBPD arrested 3 DUI drivers, issued 4 tickets for unlicensed or suspended drivers, and impounded 3 vehicles.

The checkpoint was held between 8:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. on Saturday morning. A community-wide alert about the checkpoint went out on July 18.

The checkpoint was conducted in partnership with the California Office of Traffic Safety, with a grant from that office.

According to a statement from MBPD, "Our 'Zero Tolerance' approach to enforcement sends a clear message to those who still don't heed the warning to designate a sober driver before celebrations begin. Simply put, 'If you are over the legal limit, you will be arrested.'"

The public is encouraged to keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver.
