Amid a rising tide of anti-transgender and LGBTQ+ discrimination, hate, and violence,  Manhattan Beach Community Church will hold a "Solidarity Sunday" event in Manhattan Beach.

Trans Chorus of Los Angeles Executive Director Kathryn Dainty Davis will be the featured speaker for the Adult Discussion Group at 8:30 am in the church's Assembly Hall. She will share from her life experience identifying as a girl from earliest childhood and the ups and downs of her journey to live as her authentic self.

“I understand the difficulties of dealing with growing up and suffering through gender dysphoria and worrying about being discovered," said Davis. "It is wonderful that there is support now and some understanding, but we still have a long way to go.”

The Trans Chorus of Los Angeles will perform during the worship service to follow at 10:00 a.m. in the sanctuary. Those attending will be invited to make a solidarity pledge to end verbal and physical violence against all people, especially gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

A coffee hour reception will follow for further dialogue with Davis and members of the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles. PFLAG Manhattan Beach/South Bay, which meets monthly at MBCC, will also participate with a resource table.

Davis is a founding member, executive director, and a board member of the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles and serves on the board. She also serves as a board member of PFLAG Manhattan Beach/South Bay.

In addition to a lengthy professional career in injury biomechanics and human movement analysis, Davis volunteers at the LGBT Center of Los Angeles, serving as a facilitator for groups in its Learning Curve Program, where she received a Volunteer of the Year Award for her service.
