A suspect has been arrested in the smash-and-grab robbery that took place on Saturday at Prestige Jewelers in Manhattan Beach.

The Gardena Police Department, in partnership with the Manhattan Beach Police Department, have arrested a suspect, according to the city of Manhattan Beach.

According to a statement from the city, law enforcement officials successfully apprehended one of the suspects involved in the crime.

While the investigation is still ongoing to apprehend others involved in the crime, MBPD requests the public’s assistance in identifying subjects shown in the image [above] from Prestige Jewelers’ camera system.

The image shows what appears to be five suspects, all wearing hooded sweatshirts, going after the jewelry cases. A couple apparently uninvolved in the robbery is seen huddling in the corner.

“This swift arrest should reassure the community that we have the most dedicated law enforcement agency and partners ensuring the safety of our community,” said Mayor Richard Montgomery in a statement. “We must remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Together, we will continue working to keep Manhattan Beach a safe and thriving place for everyone.”

“The Manhattan Beach Police Department and our surrounding agency partners worked tirelessly to follow leads, and gather evidence,” said Chief Rachel Johnson in a statement. “We are grateful for the support and cooperation of the community in providing information that aided in the investigation in this case. We will continue to chase down leads, and will leave no stone unturned until this case is fully brought to resolution.”

Manhattan Beach Police Department detectives ask community members who witnessed this incident, took video or photographs, or anyone who has any information pertinent to this incident, to contact Detective Hartnell at (310) 802-5127, or the MBPD Tip Line at (310) 802-5171 if you wish to remain anonymous.
