Scouts and city representatives at the 2021 Veterans Day Ceremony.

Manhattan Beach is preparing to honor veterans with a variety of activities and offers this weekend.

Activities on Saturday, November 11

Starting at 11:00 a.m., the city will hold its 26th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony at the Veterans' Memorial (on the Greenbelt between Valley and Ardmore at 15th St.) The event will feature music from the Manhattan Beach Middle School Choir, presentations by members of Boy Scout Troop 849, and a keynote address delivered by Chief Master Sergeant, Sylvester "Wes" Lawrence, Senior Enlisted Leader, 61st Security Forces Squadron, Space Base Delta 3.

From noon until 5:00 p.m. Kinecta and the Manhattan Beach Rotary will host the 4th Annual VetFest at the Kinecta headquarters building (1440 Rosecrans Ave.). The event will feature all-you-can-eat BBQ as well as craft beers and wine. There will also be music from the Pine Mountain Logs and Joe's Band as well as a Kids' Zone. Tickets are $50 per person, but there will be free entry for all veterans, active military, first responders, their significant others, and children under 18 with an adult.

Beginning at 12:30 p.m., the community is invited to lunch and a special Veterans' Day screening of Mending the Line at the Manhattan Beach Community Church. The film tells the story of a Marine wounded in Afghanistan who is sent to a V.A. facility in Montana, where he meets a Vietnam vet who teaches him how to fly fish as a way of dealing with his emotional and physical trauma. It was produced in part by two Manhattan Beach residents. A light lunch will begin at 12:30 and the screening will begin at 1:15, followed by a Q and A with those involved with the movie at approximately 3:15. The event is free, but RSVPs are requested.
