Support Local Needs on Giving Tuesday

On Giving Tuesday - a global day of charitable giving - local causes will be grateful for your help.

Also, as Giving Tuesday suggests, other contributions are valued as well. That includes donating time, giving a voice to a cause (sharing through social media), lending your specialized expertise, and sharing kindness.

Local nonprofit causes include:

Local Support for Children, Individuals, and Families


BMoved Foundation - Offering free programs to help under-served and under-resourced communities in the greater Los Angeles area, with a special focus on youth mentoring.

Chemocessories: Providing free sets of jewelry, scarves, and turbans to women undergoing chemotherapy.

Culture Club South Bay - Uniting youth by celebrating diversity and creating inclusion through surfing, volleyball, arts, education, and culinary experiences.

Friendship Foundation - Offering programs and activities for children with special abilities.

Growing Great - Empowering children to make healthy food choices through hands-on science and garden education. (A donor is matching all gifts given today.)

Los Angeles Regional Food Bank - Providing more than 2 million meals for families and children struggling with hunger this season. All gifts will be matched on Giving Tuesday, up to $200,000.

Mychal's Learning Place - Providing training and opportunities to youth and young adults with developmental disabilities to build their independence.

Neptunian Woman's Club - A 114-year-old volunteer organization dedicated to serving the needs of the South Bay community. (Fundraising is for the Neptunians' scholarship fund.)

PS I Love You Foundation - Developing social-emotional learning and resilience programs to benefit K-12 youth in local vulnerable communities.

Richstone Family Center - Helping local families and treating child abuse and trauma.

Rainbow Services - Support for local families experiencing domestic violence.

Sandpipers - A 92-year-old volunteer organization dedicated to serving the South Bay community through charitable and philanthropic programs. (The Sandpipers Holiday Homes Tour takes place this weekend, on December 1-3.)

Shared Bread - Providing meals and support services to the hungry and unhoused.

Walk With Sally - Lessening the burden of cancer for children and families through mentorship, mental health support, art healing, and financial empowerment.

Ocean/Marine Health/Environment


The Bay Foundation - Restoring habitat and addressing climate change through ocean, coastal, and community programs (and leading the dune restoration project in Manhattan Beach).

Grades of Green - Educating and empowering students to take action and lead environmental change

Heal the Bay Foundation - Championing clean water and environmental stewardship in Greater Los Angeles.

Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation - Providing surf therapy and surf education (and scholarships).

Roundhouse Aquarium - Manhattan Beach's iconic aquarium and marine learning center. All donations made by midnight Tuesday will be matched up to $5,000.

Surfrider Foundation - The South Bay chapter of the Surfrider organization, dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of local and global oceans, waves and beaches. (And for those who choose to give to the national Surfrider Foundation, REEF is matching all donations up to $100,000.)

School Organizations


Manhattan Beach Education Foundation - Manhattan Beach's education foundation, supplementing state funding for programs that enrich and advance academic excellence in Manhattan Beach schools.

MBX Booster Clubs - From badminton to wrestling, from Cybersecurity to Model UN, here's your chance to support a variety of Mira Costa High School sports, clubs, and organizations.

Mira Costa Band and Colorguard - Supporting the Mira Costa Band and Colorguard (we're calling them out specifically because they're the ones that suggested this article).


Civic Causes


L.A. County Library Foundation (the system that Manhattan Beach Library is a part of) - Supporting early learners, students, adult job-seekers, and older residents with resource support, reading groups, and more.

Manhattan Beach Botanical Garden - Manhattan Beach's all-native demonstration garden offering learning opportunities on earth-friendly native gardens, wildlife habitats, and bird/butterfly sanctuaries.

Manhattan Beach Community Center/Scout House - Building a first-class community center to serve Manhattan Beach seniors and scouts and the community at large.

Manhattan Beach Rotary Foundation - Providing funds for scholarships, community service projects, awards for our teachers, police officers and firefighters, and other projects

Manhattan Beach Santa Float/MB Kiwanis - Supporting the MB Kiwanis' Santa Float and its route through town; any overages go toward the MB Kiwanis' scholarship fund.

MBPD K9 Fund - Supporting Manhattan Beach's active and retired police service dogs and their handlers, and assisting the city with providing additional training and equipment.

MB SAFE - Supporting compassionate solutions for homeless people in our area.

MB United Scholarship Fund and MB United Richstone Kids Program - For the MB United scholarship in memory of Bruce's Beach, and for the MB United summer program with Richstone Family Center kids at the Roundhouse Aquarium.

PFLAG Manhattan Beach - Supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gender expansive, non-binary and queer (LGBTQIA+) individuals, and parents, families and friends of those who identify as LGBTQ+.

Soroptomist International Manhattan Beach - Improving the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.

Animals and Pets


Lovejoy Foundation - Saving dogs, puppies, cats, kittens off the streets that are abandoned, neglected and abused, and providing adoption services to house those animals.

Noah's Bark Dog Rescue - Rescuing the most "broken, sick and pitiful dogs" from high-kill shelters to give them a second chance through care and adoption. 

Peter Zippi Memorial Foundation - Providing intake and safe placement of cats and kittens and financial aid to community members for spaying and neutering of cats and other pets.
