A colorful and festive golf cart parade through town capped off a week of celebrations known as "Local Love Weekend" in downtown Manhattan Beach on Sunday.

The Golf Cart Crew's golf cart parades through Manhattan Beach, begun during the pandemic and organized by resident Shawn Giaconi, have grown in popularity over the past three years. The group now leads parades during Christmas, Halloween, the Fourth of July, and other holidays.

Sunday's parade was a little smaller than usual, with 10 vehicles in total, but the enthusiasm was as intense as ever. Mayor Pro Tem Joe Franklin was on hand as well, with his robin's egg blue 1955 Ford Thunderbird. (See additional photos below.)

Unique to Sunday's parade was the addition of a scavenger hunt that took place at the base of the Manhattan Beach Pier. The winners of the scavenger hunt won a generous prize of a $200 gift cart to Manhattan Meats.

"The scavenger hunt was fantastic," said Giaconi. "I’ve always wanted to have one and I’m very happy it went well...The event was super fun, and the amazing weather definitely helped."

Participants also got to enjoy a spectacular orange sunset at the end of their ride.
