Robinson Students Unveil 'Dream Tag' Art Project at Metlox

Jan 12, 2024 10:26PM ● By Jeanne Fratello

The "Dolphin Dads" Robinson parent band plays at Metlox as students gather to unveil their new art installation.

In honor of Martin Luther King weekend, Robinson students created a "Dream Tag" project that involved writing out their dreams for the future on white paper tags. More than 300 tags are currently on display in Metlox Plaza.

Students, teachers, and parents were on hand on Friday to unveil the project. On each of the "tags" on display, students completed the sentence, "I have a dream..." The tags will be on display at Metlox through January 19.

At Friday's event, students listened to excerpts from King's "I Have a Dream" speech and selected students read their dreams to the assembled group.

The crowd was then entertained by a performance from the Robinson "Dolphin Dads" band. (The band of Dan Grody, Gabe Griffith, Tom Cook, and Sharon Gardner is technically two Robinson dads, a Robinson mom, and a Robinson friend.) See a clip of their performance here.

Robinson students have made a cherished tradition of creating short-term public art projects at Metlox. Their projects included a "Grow Kindness" succulent project in 2023, “Kindness Chains” in 2022, and “Kindness Hearts,” which hung in Civic Center Plaza and Joslyn Center in previous years. In 2017, Robinson students worked through a checklist of 24 acts of kindness.
