Incoming Kindergarten/TK Parents Urged to Attend Information Day

Jan 15, 2024 09:34PM ● By Mb News Staff
Got little kids? Parents whose young children who are preparing to enter kindergarten or transitional kindergarten (TK) in the Manhattan Beach schools are urged to attend a special information session on Saturday morning, January 20, at Grand View Elementary School.

The annual information session gives parents a chance to learn about MBUSD programs, transitioning into elementary school, and the TK program. The program will feature talks from and a Q & A opportunity with Manhattan Beach Unified elementary principals, teachers, parents, and MBUSD Superintendent John Bowes. Current MBUSD students will also be on hand to share their experiences.

There will be a meet-and-greet starting 9:00 a.m., and the program will begin at 9:30 a.m. (Although the program will be held at Grand View, it is open to parents whose children will be entering any of MBUSD's elementary schools. Note that the event is designed for parents, not children.)

TK is considered the first year of a two-year kindergarten experience. Under new universal TK rules, TK eligibility has been expanding. For 2024–25, children are eligible for TK if they turn five between September 2 and June 2 (inclusive of those dates). For 2025–26, and in each school year thereafter, children who will turn four years old by September 1 are eligible for TK.

TK is offered at all MBUSD elementary schools. However, there is no obligation for a child to enroll in TK.

More information can be found at MBUSD's student enrollment page. For questions, email  [email protected]. RSVPs are not required.
