Aspiring Eagle Scout Plans Mira Costa Beautification Project

Apr 11, 2024 09:33PM ● By Leila Meftah

Brendan Jorenby, a junior at Mira Costa High School, has spent the last few months working hard on bringing his Eagle Scout Project to life. Jorenby plans to bring beauty to a 93-foot-long wall with Mira Costa's colors. This wall is located in a busy spot on campus between the swimming pool, the baseball diamond, the tennis courts, and the soccer field, where students and athletes can usually be found.

Jorenby took on this project with the goal of achieving his Eagle Scout ranking, the highest ranking in Boy Scouts. At this point, he, with the help of friends, has power washed and weeded the wall, and he will continue with priming and stenciling.

Since 1912, the Eagle Scout rank has represented a milestone of accomplishment that is recognized across the country and even the world. Those who have earned the Eagle Scout rank count it among their most treasured achievements.

Part of the process of becoming an Eagle Scout involves planning, developing, and giving leadership to others in a service project that is helpful to a religious institution, school, or the community.

This project is one of the many requirements for becoming an Eagle Scout. Others include having 13 Eagle Scout merit badges, having your project checked by the beneficiary, meeting with several boards of review, making a book that compiles all of your achievements as a Boy Scout, and more.

Jorenby had been working towards his Eagle Scout achievement since he was in first grade, where he began as a Cub Scout continuing onto Boy Scouts in fifth grade. “I've been working on this for so many years; it's definitely a dream of mine," Jorenby told MB News.

Jorenby has created a Go Fund Me page to gain support in covering the costs of his project, with a goal of raising $1500.
