Seven Mira Costa student-athletes celebrated National Signing Day on Wednesday, announcing their college commitments for their respective sports.

The April signing day follows a signing day held last fall, when the first wave of student-athletes from the class of 2024 announced their commitments, and the winter signing day in February.

The student-athletes are as follows:

Ashlyn Green - Softball, Harvey Mudd College: Ashlyn will be attending Harvey Mudd College as a joint major in biology and chemistry while competing for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas Softball team. Ashlyn has been a member of the Mira Costa varsity softball team since her freshman year, starting in center field and occasionally pitching to help out while being a scholar-athlete all four years. Ashlyn earned the AP Scholar Award with distinction in 2022 and 2023. She played club softball for the premier Cal Thunder LeVier team as both an outfielder and at times as the primary pitcher. In addition to her athletic attributes, she has performed with the Mira Costa Orchestra all four years and is currently part of the prestigious Chamber Orchestra. Ashlyn is a two-time world champion for Odyssey of the Mind and STEM (by engineering an efficient and strong 15 gram, 8-inch-tall structure that holds 1,360 pounds, a current world record). She also participated in the Stanford Youth Leadership Conference working on Hepatitis B awareness. Ashlyn would like to thank her family, friends, and coaches for all their support throughout the years. She is excited about attending Harvey Mudd and continuing her softball career in college. Go Athenas!

Alexandra Kurz - Beach Volleyball, Texas Christian University: Alex has committed to play beach volleyball at #3-ranked TCU. Alex has been playing beach volleyball since sixth grade and always dreamed of continuing her sport through high school and college. She has been a part of the Elite Beach Volleyball Club for 6 years and is mentored by Olympians Holly McPeak, Barbra Fontana, and Eric Fonoimoana. Alex has been selected to be part of the USA Volleyball National Development Training Program since 2017. She is grateful to her family and coaches who have supported and encouraged her throughout her high school years, and she is so excited to play the sport she loves at TCU. Go Frogs!

Kate Morley - Beach Volleyball, UC Berkeley: Kate Morley will be attending the University of California, Berkeley and competing for the Golden Bears beach volleyball team. Kate has represented Bishop Montgomery as a varsity indoor and beach player since freshman year and Costa Beach this Spring. Kate has also been a proud member of MB Sand Volleyball Club since middle school and has won multiple national championships. Kate would like to thank her coaches, friends, and family for all their support on this journey and she can’t wait to represent Berkeley. Go Bears!

Kalani Nelson - Water Polo, University of Redlands: Kalani will be attending the University of Redlands and playing for the Bulldogs water polo team. He has played on the Mira Costa varsity water polo team for all four years. He was a starter in his final season in the 2-meter position, helping his team finish strong in the Division 1 CIF Semi-Finals. Kalani also swam on the varsity swim team for three years, which further helped his water polo career. Currently he is a candidate going through the rigorous LA County Ocean Lifeguard Academy, and is heading this week into his 7th of 9 weekends. Kalani wants to thank his family, friends, teammates and Costa coaches for all of their incredible support over the years. Onto Redlands....Go Bulldogs!

Ian Rodriguez - Soccer, Claremont McKenna College: Ian will be attending Claremont McKenna College and will play for the Stags soccer team. This is Ian’s fourth year of playing varsity soccer, with his first two years being at Bishop Montgomery and the last two at Mira Costa, where he was captain senior year. His past club teams include LA Galaxy South Bay, Steel United and his current team, Beach FC. Ian was chosen for Bay League First Team and Daily Breeze All-Area First Team for the 2023-24 season. He has also earned the honor of being selected for the All ECNL Southwest Conference First Team and for two ECNL National All Star games in Texas and South Carolina. Ian would like to thank all of his past and current coaches and teammates, family and friends who have helped him reach where he is today. Go Stags!

Max Ramos-Judge - Cross Country, Colgate University: Max will be attending Colgate University to run D1 cross country and track and field. He’s really proud of his time at Mira Costa, having been a part of the fastest 5K and 3-mile teams ever from the South Bay, as well as the 50th fastest team ever from California. He wants to make it clear, however, that the highlight of the past few years hasn’t been the fast times nor impressive results, but all the people he’s met. It’s through the Mira Costa Cross Country program where he’s found his best friends in his teammates, and mentors in his coaches, who are all now like family to him. He is really appreciative of all the experiences MCXC has given him and his teammates, and can’t wait to see what all the guys will accomplish in the upcoming years given the degree of talent on the team. He is also really appreciative of Coach France and Colgate for giving him this opportunity to run for such a great program, and really excited to continue wearing his short shorts for the foreseeable future. Go Raiders!

Justin Smith - Rugby, University of Alabama: Justin will attending the University of Alabama and playing for the Crimson Tides rugby team. Justin has been a part of the Mira Costa rugby family since 6th grade, playing since freshman year. He plays scrum half and has been a scholar-athlete since he was a freshman. He is currently playing club rugby for Santa Monica Rugby Club. Justin would like to thank his mom, his teammates his family and all the people who pushed him to work. He is excited to continue his academic achievements while playing rugby at The University of Alabama. Roll Tide!
