Jun 27, 2014 12:14PM ● By Mb News Staff
The Aquatic Program at Begg Pool launched its summer season Saturday, June 21, with a free pool party. As kids and adults splashed around in the pool under the watchful eye of lifeguards, others enjoyed the sun in lounge chairs.

Every summer the City of Manhattan Beach's Parks and Recreation Department begins the summer pool season with a "Kickoff Party," said Jesus Sandoval, pool manager. More than 120 people came to the pool to enjoy the free swim and sunshine.

The "Kickoff Party" gives families and swimmers a chance to meet pool staff and includes water games, water balloon tossing, swimming and music. Pool-goers were invited to bring their own food to enjoy a picnic lunch on the lawn.

The pool is closed Sunday, June 22, and opens for summer classes, recreational and swims, a Jr. Lifeguards program, Masters program and swim team Monday, June 23, said Sandoval.

The pool hosts another pool party on July 4 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. for $5 per person. Party-goers may bring food to enjoy during the party.

Recreational Swim days/hours are Saturday-Thursday, 1-2:50 p.m. for $3 per person per visit. Hours are expanded on Fridays, 12 noon-4 p.m. at a cost of $5 per person per visit.

Lap Swim days/hours are Monday-Friday, 7:15-8:15 a.m., Monday-Thursday, 9-10 p.m. and Saturday, 7:50-8:50 a.m.
