As the 2014/2015 school year begins, two Manhattan Beach elementary schools will have new principals at the helm: Dr. Toni Brown at the 475-student Meadows Elementary, and Katherine Whittaker Stopp at the 585-student Pennekamp Elementary

Brown, currently the assistant principal at Manhattan Beach Middle School, earned her B.A. and M.A. from Loyola Marymount, and her Ed.D. from USC. She was a teacher and counselor in Long Beach and Tustin before coming to Manhattan Beach in 2011.

"I am very excited about my new assignment. I have absolutely enjoyed my time at the middle school, and getting back to my elementary roots is the icing on the cake," Brown told DigMB. "I look forward to bringing my enthusiasm to the Dragon Family and can't wait to start the school year."

Whittaker Stopp has worked with MBUSD as a TOSA (teacher on special assignment) for writing and literacy since 2012. She began teaching in MBUSD in 1995, teaching at Grand View and Robinson elementary schools. She earned the California Young Educator Award in 2000, and was a two-time Teacher of the Year at Robinson Elementary. She earned her B.A. from UCLA, her M.A. from Pepperdine, and she is in the process of earning her Ed.D. from USC.

"I have loved working with so many families in Manhattan Beach, and I am looking forward to this new opportunity," Whittaker Stopp told DigMB.

Both officially began their positions on July 1. All Manhattan Beach Unified School District students return to school on Tuesday, August 26. The full calendar for the 2014/15 school year is available in .pdf form here.
