Special Benefit Dinner at Darren's

Jul 27, 2014 09:58AM ● By Mb News Staff

The popular downtown Manhattan Beach dining destination has remodeled and revamped its menu.

As part of its re-opening celebration after extensive renovations, Darren's Restaurant will host a benefit dinner on Tuesday, July 29 to raise funds for No Limits for Deaf Children, an organization dedicated to enriching the lives of children with hearing impairments through after-school programs and theater groups. The evening and cause promise to be very special for Chef/Owner Darren Weiss.

“As a person with a hearing impairment, I wanted to give back to a cause that is very close to my heart," he says. "Having the opportunity to partner with an organization like No Limits for Deaf Children and host a benefit dinner makes this experience that much more special for me."

“Chef Darren is an incredible role model for these kids and we are thrilled to be a part of such an amazing event,” says Liz Martinez, program director for No Limits for Deaf Children. “Our program is dedicated to teaching these kids that their dreams shouldn’t be hindered by their hearing impairment. We want to empower them to go after their own dreams with the confidence that they will succeed; and that is exactly the kind of example that Darren has set.”

The benefit dinner with a four-course prix-fixe menu will begin at 7 p.m. Dinner will include a choice of an appetizer, soup or salad, entrée, and dessert, and the featured menu will also come with wine pairings to accompany the selections.

Some of the menu options that guests can look forward to included spicy mussels, lobster chowder, braised beef short ribs, and a deliciously sweet triple chocolate brownie, among other options.

The event will also offer post-dinner entertainment from Kathy Buckley, the five-time Best Stand-Up Female Comedienne American Comedy Award nominee and the winner of countless other awards. She is also an actress, writer and producer, author, humanitarian, and one of the country’s leading motivational speakers.

Tickets are $100 per person, including wine pairings or $75 per person, excluding wine pairings. Gratuity is not included in the ticket price. Space is limited and spots will be reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis.

A portion of ticket proceeds will benefit No Limits for Deaf Children.

Darren’s Restaurant can be reached at (310) 802-1973 or visit http://www.darrensrestaurant.com/.

No Limits for Deaf Children, founded in 1996, has grown tremendously. It began as an after-school theater program for hearing impaired children designed to improve their speaking abilities in a fun, non-academic setting.

Now, the charity is a national force that has expanded beyond the theatrical arts to provide auditory, speech and language training year round. Parents bring their kids from near and far to be a part of the program, says Liz, because they know that No Limits is a place where their children feel safe, accepted, and where they are able to cultivate their creativity and communication skills so they can move confidently in the world. No Limits for Deaf Children is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
