MB/HB Youth Baseball Team Takes 2nd World Series Victory

With six fewer hits than their Central Region competitor, the team made up of Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach Junior League All Stars (representing the United States' West Region) took advantage of rallies to finesse a 9-6 win Tuesday in the World Series in Taylor, Michigan.
It was the team's second victory in the World Series. The boys play a thus far undefeated Texas team representing the Southeast Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Oil Belt Junior League team from Corpus, Christi, Texas is 2-0 as is the MB/HB team.
Against MB/HB, the Central team from, a combination of players from Northeast/Fraternal Northwest Little Leagues in Midland, Michigan got 13 hits; the West had seven. Central stranded 11 runners on base.
MB/Hb team's Joey Acosta racked up six RBIs on three hits, one RBI shy of tying the Junior League World Series record of seven. He singled in the first and second innings and hit a grand slam home run in the fourth.
Jesse Storey shut down Central while he was on the bump. Central managed just two hits off of the West's pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out two during his four innings of work.
Martin Money racked up three RBIs on two hits for Central. He homered in the fourth inning and singled in the sixth.
MB/HB's Sean McDonald recorded the win for the West. He allowed three runs over 2-1/3 innings, striking out three, walking two and surrendering six hits.
Money couldn't get it done on the mound for Central, taking a loss. He allowed eight runs in 4-1/3 innings, walking five and striking out five.
The MB/MB boys never surrendered the lead after the first inning, scoring one run on an RBI single by Acosta.
Three runs in the bottom of the third helped Central close the deficit to 4-3. An RBI single by Garrett Willis, an RBI single by JP Zaremba, and an RBI single by Liam Grady set off Central's rally. The MB/HB team stopped the rally after Merrick Baldo got Logan Walko to fly out.
After pushing across three runs in the bottom of the fourth, Central closed the gap, facing just an 8-6 deficit. A three-run home run by Money gave the Central team life but the threat from Central ended when Storey finally got Grady for the final out.
