Exciting Beach Volleyball in Manhattan Beach Saturday and Sunday

Volleyball fans who can't make it to the AVP Manhattan Beach Open today or Sunday can watch tournament play online.

Those who can get to the sand courts just south of the Manhattan Beach Pier will have the opportunity to mix and mingle with the best in beach volleyball.

Six-time MB Open and three-time Olympic gold medaliat Kerri Walsh Jennings and her partner April Ross powered through their bracket Friday, and take Stadium Court Saturday at 11:10 a.m.

Jake Gibb and Casey Peterson, the men's No. 1 seed, play at 11:10 a.m., too, and Sean Rosenthal and Olympic gold medalist Phil Dalhausser play at 12:20 p.m.

MB resident Lane Carico and her partner play against 2013 MB Open defedning champion Whitney Pavlik and her 2014 partner at 11:15 a.m. Saturday.

In the contender's bracket, MB resident Jace Pardon and partner Lara Dykstra take Court 1 at 10:10 a.m. in an attempt to remain alive in the competition. Pardon and Dykstra took silver in the FIVB U23 World Championships Myslowice, Poland in June.

MB resident Clay Paullin and partner Hawk Hatcher, who qualified for the tournament Thursday in qualifying matches, as did Pardon and Dykstra, is playing in the contender's bracket at 9:10 a.m. Saturday.

In other news, defending MB Open champion Casey Jennings, who lives in Manhattan Beach with his wife Kerri Walsh Jennings (she is also the defending MB Open champ), emerges in the contender's bracket with his partner this year Jeremy Casebeer. The duo plays at 10:15 a.m. after dropping to the No. 9 seed Billy Allen and Trevor Crabb, 21-13, 21-19, Friday. Jennings and Casebeer are the No. 8 seed.

Saturday competition is expected to go until 6 p.m. Sunday's schedule includes final rounds and finals play from i]8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a Legends game at 11:30 a.m., followed by the women's and men's finals. 

On Sunday, the men’s and women’s finals will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network at 1 p.m. PT (women’s final; men’s final to follow at 2 p.m.). General admission is free and Club AVP passes are sold out for Saturday and Sunday.

The AVP Manhattan Beach Open is the fourth of seven tournaments on the 2014 AVP Tour schedule. Supporters of the 2014 MB Open include smart USA, Paul Mitchell, Bud Light, Barefoot, HyperX, AQUAHydrate, Luvo and Whole Foods. The MB Open began in 1960 and is in its 54th year.
