On Veterans' Day, November 11, local boutique Tabula Rasa will be offering a special day of shopping in support of programs benefiting veterans. Mention "JMMF" or "Wounded Warriors" when you shop, and Tabula Rasa will donate 50% of the profits from the purchase to the Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation.
The Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation, named after longtime Manhattan Beach surf enthusiast Jimmy Miller, provides free of charge its unique Ocean Therapy program to the U.S. Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Battalion-West, as well as the veterans from the West L.A. Veterans Hospital and youth from several care and shelter facilities for at risk and foster children. The Ocean Therapy program for the Marines takes place year round on the beach at Camp Pendleton and the program for the veterans and children operates in Manhattan Beach during the spring and summer months.
Tabula Rasa, a boutique featuring unique home design items, as well as jewelry and accessories, is located at 919 A Manhattan Ave. in downtown Manhattan Beach.
"I
have always had great respect and admiration for those that serve in
our military...Their courage, steadfast confidence, and ultimately their
passion to defend our way of life is very compelling. These men and
women stand in the face of danger and protect our freedom. There is no
greater sacrifice…their personal sacrifice and that of their families," said Maureen McBride, owner of Tabula Rasa.
"The
Wounded Warriors, and in particular the Ocean Therapy program that JMMF
spearheads, reasonates very strongly with me," continued McBride. "I have always felt the
healing powers of the ocean and it has been a place I have personally
sought refuge during very difficult times. It's important for me to
give back to our community and when something really touches my heart
and soul like the fine work the JMMF does, I want to be involved and
help in some small way to make a difference."
