Mira Costa Students Bring 'The Matchmaker' to Life

Nov 10, 2014 11:41AM ● By Mb News Staff

Thornton Wilder's comedic take on finding the perfect match in the game of love, "The Matchmaker" is on stage at Mira Costa High School Wednesday, November 12 through Saturday, November 14.

The play is the Mira Costa High School Drama Department’s fall production, and promises to be highly entertaining. Last year's spring student production, “Peter Pan” won best musical at The Pantages Theatre Jerry Herman Awards of Los Angeles and The Fullerton College High School Theatre Festival of Southern California.

Indeed, the department is known for its top quality productions, with last fall's staging of Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible” won first place at the same Fullerton festival for best contemporary dramatic scene.

In addition, theatergoers will be treated to a lobby display of 12 costumes from previous MCHS productions, all made by longtime Manhattan Beach resident Alison Gerber. Gerber is a professional costume designer who volunteers her time and talent to designing and building the costumes for MCHS drama productions.

Performances will be held in the MCHS Auditorium, 1401 Artesia Blvd., Manhattan Beach. Performance dates and times are: Wednesday, November 12 at 4 p.m., Thursday, November 13 at 6:30 p.m., Friday, November 14 at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, November 15 at 2 and 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are available online in advance ($1 PayPal fee) and at the auditorium box office for $15 for adults, and $12 for students and seniors. MCHS Drama Department productions are fully funded by the drama boosters fundraising efforts and ticket sales.
