Doma Kitchen, Two Guns Pair Up for Pop-Up Dinners

Nov 14, 2014 01:29PM ● By Jeanne Fratello
Local food and drink favorites Two Guns Espresso and Doma Kitchen have teamed up for a series of pop-up dinners on weekends in November. The three-course dinners will be held at Two Guns Espresso on Friday and Saturday nights through the end of the month.

Doma Kitchen, the European-style restaurant that had been located in Redondo Beach, closed this fall in preparation for a grand re-opening in a larger space in Manhattan Beach in early 2015. In the meantime, Doma is experimenting with new menus and the pop-up concept. "Our team is very excited to partner with Two Guns Espresso. Stan and his staff have been overwhelmingly gracious with allowing us to use their space." says Doma owner Angie Corrente.

Corrente notes that pop-up restaurants have been very popular in downtown L.A., and the pop-up concept is the perfect medium for them to roll out new items before the new restaurant opens. "At Doma, we didn't really do dinners - we had sandwiches and crepes," she says. "Now we're going to try out new dishes for dinners."

Some of the new dishes will play off Doma Kitchen's European theme, and some will build on Chef Kristina Miksyte's Eastern European heritage. Items appearing on the three-course rotating menu will include Russian pelmeni dumplings filled with lamb and wrapped in a thin, unleavened dough; housemade smoked sausages with pickled vegetables; Doma's signature lamb dishes; plov (simmered rice with spices and and garbanzo beans); vareniki (potato-stuffed dumplings); and a selection of desserts paired with Two Guns coffee and espresso. Beer and wine will be available for purchase and guests are also welcome to BYO with a corkage fee of $10 for wine and $5 for beer.

Corrente credits the dynamic South Bay food scene - and its enthusiastic supporters - for the success of Doma Kitchen and the excitement about the pop-up series. "The South Bay is so supportive, and the community is so open-minded," she says. "Even when (co-owner Stan Mayzalis) and I go to the gym, people are like, 'Hey - Doma!'"

The dinners are scheduled for Nov. 14 and 15; 21 and 22; and 28 and 29. A 3-course dinner will cost $35 per person (plus tax and tip). Reservations can be made by emailing [email protected] or by calling (310) 372-7298.
