Around Town: MCHS vs. RUHS, Free Run Club, Italian Cooking Class, and Fashion

Mar 17, 2015 09:32AM ● By Mb News Staff

iRunMB, in downtown Manhattan Beach, offers a free Run Club.

As always, there's a lot going on in Manhattan Beach. Here are five things to check out:
  1. The classic rivalry between Mira Costa High School and Redondo Union High pits the No. 3 and No. 2, respectively, seeded teams in the CIF State Championships against each other tonight at RUHS in Redondo Beach at 7 p.m. in a girls basketball clash that could go either way. RUHS is one up in this year's battle, 2-1. Costa's one victory came on their home court when they won 42-36. They then lost 40-39 on the Seahawk's home court, and then 60-37 in CIF finals competition on a neutral court. Tickets are $9 for general admission and $5 for children, students with an ASB card and senior citizens.
  2. Every Wednesday night, runners of all ages and abilities can join iRunMB's "We Run Wednesdays" from 6:30-8 p.m. This public run club begins to gather around 6:15 at this downtown Manhattan Beach specialty sports shop at 1112 Manhattan Ave. Runners have their choice of a 5k or 5-mile distance; direction cards provided. Snacks and drinks are available after each run and there is also raffle for store items.
  3. Love cooking? You can join an Italian Cooking Class at the esteemed Il Fornaio Saturday, March 21 beginning at 10 a.m. For $49.99 per person, you'll spend the morning with Chef Mendoza for a demonstration-style class. Participating cooks will learn how to prepare authentic Italian dishes while sampling class creations. The class concludes with a four-course meal and wine pairing. To RSVP, call (310) 725-9555.
  4. Chefs, cooks and the plain ol' curious can record (because you'll be at RUHS cheering on the Lady Mustangs) the TV show Hell's Kitchen tonight beginning at 8 p.m. to see the episode's winning chefs spend a fun day in MB. Gordon Ramsay's popular show that pits teams of chef's against one another in an elimination-style contest has remaining chefs matching the heads and tails of popular fish in order to win an advantage. The remaining chefs must match the heads and tails of popular fish in order to win an advantage. It all sounds pretty fishy to me. The show is on Fox.
  5. Fashionistas rejoice! The TV show The MIndy Project, which airs Tuesday nights through March 24 from 9:30-10 p.m. on Fox, is donating a designer outfit from each of the season's remaining episodes for an auction eBay to raise funds for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, the national organization (with offices in MB) working to advance research, support patients and create hope for those affected by pancreatic cancer. Star Mindy Kaling is donating the outfits in memory of her mom. The auction is live at fox.com/mindyauction and offers an outfit from last week and tonight's episode until Thursday, March 19. The donated outfit from next week's season finale will be auctioned online from Tuesday, March 24 through Thursday, March 26.
