May 14, 2015 01:20PM ● By Mb News Staff

Last year's MBCC scholarship awardees: Kelly Sass, Nikos Villarreal Styles, Matthew Wenner, Madison Jett Miketa, Anthony Lee, and Emily Everhard.

Six Mira Costa High School seniors will receive $3,000 scholarships from the Manhattan Beach Coordinating Council (MBCC) at a community reception  from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 21 at The Belamar Hotel in Manhattan Beach.

Monique Bolsajian, Brian Chao, Reilly Edmonds, Scott Miketa, and Alexandra Yee will be honored at the reception for their outstanding community/school involvement and academic successes. Special presentations will showcase each student's achievements.

The reception, sponsored by Beach Cities Health District with food from Second Story in The Belamar and a Blue Zones Project restaurant, is open to the public at a cost of $35 per person, which includes refreshments.

Advance registration is requested to attend the reception.

“The Manhattan Beach Coordinating Council has been recognizing outstanding students for over 30 years,” says Stephanie Martin, MBCC president and MBPD police officer. “The organization has a long history of providing successful networking opportunities for local government, school officials, community leaders, business owners and parents, in addition to supporting youth. The ability to provide scholarships is based on annual contributions from corporations, local businesses, residents, fundraising opportunities and established Trust Funds. On behalf of the MBCC, I’d like to congratulate all the 2015 recipients.”

Martin notes that MBCC has presented local seniors with more than $42,000 since 2013 to help them afford college costs.

The MBCC’s mission is to establish a forum to promote networking, communication and information exchange among agencies, organizations and individuals and to provide recognition to local students.
