Trilogy Spa Offers Relaxation, Restoration for the Holiday Season

Nov 30, 2015 09:34AM ● By Jeanne Fratello
Is it possible to be in the heart of downtown, and yet feel like you're on a tropical island thousands of miles away? Absolutely, if you're inside Trilogy Spa, Manhattan Beach's comprehensive day spa, which offers a full range of services and opportunities for relaxation.

This holiday season, in addition to its famous massages and skin care, Trilogy is preparing to roll out a new line of services designed to indulge, pamper, and transform. Starting December 1, Trilogy will feature a series of non-invasive medical skin care procedures, including lasers, micro-needling with growth factors, and dermaplaning. Trilogy will also offer a "holiday facial," utilizing high-end and groundbreaking products from Kat Burki; and an IV bar with customized supplements for rejuvenation, anti-aging, and more.

"We want to combine the best products on the market with the best technicians," said Chandra Shaw, owner of Trilogy. "We want to offer all the things our clients expect."

The new services will complement a broad menu of Trilogy services and products ranging from Trilogy's own skin care line to stylish yoga wear. "Our clients want head-to-toe wellness," added Shaw.

The Trilogy Experience

Since it first opened in 1999, Trilogy has earned a well-deserved reputation as a top destination for massages and skin treatments, as well as an indulgent day spa atmosphere. It's also known for its expansive roof deck, a tranquil retreat by day that can be transformed into a glittery party space at night.

The Trilogy team, led by Shaw, consists of caring, dedicated clinicians - some of whom have been at Trilogy since the day its doors opened. Trilogy's senior staff members who have earned devoted followings include massage therapists Linda Acosta, Christina Gray, and Theresa Lang; along with skin care expert Marissa Munson.

"We're so lucky to have world-class staff," says Shaw.

When you enter Trilogy, you're beckoned up the stairs and down a hallway into a luxurious bath, shower, and locker area, where you can pack up your things and prepare to toss aside your cares for the day. (Women and men have different locker rooms; Shaw says that there are generally more women at the spa during the day and more men in the evening.)

Slip into a plush Trilogy robe, and then head down into the waiting area where you can hydrate with water and fresh fruit while you leaf through your favorite magazines.

If you're visiting Trilogy for the first time, you might want to start with a classic Trilogy massage and facial. For the fall, you'll also enjoy the Vitamin C + Pumpkin ICE Facial; 10-step facial that packs the triple power of multi-layered vitamin C, pumpkin peel, and lactic exfoliation with skin brightening and energizing hi-frequency oxygen boosts, anti-aging LED red/ blue lights, smooth and firm eye treatments, and a Thermal/Ice skin-plumping hyaluronic honey mask. (The good thing is that you don't have to remember all that; you can just sit back and enjoy it.)

When you're finished, you can make your way slowly back to the shower room where you can luxuriate in a giant bathtub or in Trilogy's rain shower. Then wrap yourself up in your robe and head on out to the deck, where you can enjoy a magazine, sip a cool drink, or just relax and enjoy the sunshine.

If it feels like a getaway, it was designed that way:
"In creating the spa we tried really hard to make it a destination spa experience, even though we’re in a day spa setting," says Shaw.

Community Spirit

If you attended the Manhattan Beach Pier Lighting and Holiday Open House earlier in November, you probably had a chance to stop by Metlox Plaza, where Trilogy offered a showing of Charlie Brown on a giant screen along with artificial snow falling from above.

That kind of display is classic Trilogy, which has earned a reputation as one of the most giving and community-oriented businesses in town. In fact, if you go to just about any fund-raising event in town, you're likely to see a donation from Trilogy.

"Trilogy opens the spa for fundraisers, parties, and for special recognition to groups like breast cancer survivors and more on a regular basis," said Kelly Stroman, executive director of the Downtown Manhattan Beach Business and Professional Association. "The amount of resources Chandra dedicates to pleasing the community and making everyone feel special is unparalleled."

Stroman continued: "Chandra and Trilogy truly make Downtown Manhattan Beach sparkle. It is businesses like Trilogy and independent owners - who are so genuine - like Chandra that make our town so very special. It's no wonder that people flock to Trilogy on a regular basis for a little treat."

Trilogy receives approximately three donation requests per day, and gives away hundreds of dollars per week in donations, according to Shaw.

"We feel like we’re a part of this community and we feel like it’s important to give back," said Shaw.

Shaw, who started Trilogy because she wanted to create a business with a "human" side, added that she feels that Manhattan Beach was the right place to land.

"I don’t there are many better places to live or be able to do business," said Shaw. "We’re very lucky here, and we feel really fortunate that we get to be a part of it."
