City Will 'Salute The Troops' on July 3

As special thanks to active duty military and veterans for their service to our country, the City of Manhattan Beach will host a "Salute to the Troops" special picnic and concert at Polliwog Park on Sunday, July 3.
The event, which will last from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., will begin with a flag distribution by Boy Scouts and a National Guard display. At 5:00 p.m., the master of ceremonies Dennis McNeil will sing the National Anthem, followed by a performance by the 300th Army Band "Hollywood's Own."
The event is free and open to the public. All attendees are encouraged to pack a picnic and bring a blanket and beach chairs. The first 1,000 veterans and active duty military at the event will receive a "Salute to the Troops" challenge coin.
The band is Southern California’s only Army Reserve band, serving the American Southwest Region and the 63rd Regional Support Command. Under the direction of Chief Warrant Officer Jeff Smith, the band performs nationally and internationally, with the mission of fostering the support of the American people for our country's armed forces, telling the Army story through music, and supporting humanitarian efforts around the world.
The city initiated the event last year at the behest of former Parks and Recreation Commissioner Stephen Rothans, who had several family members who were veterans and wanted to do more to support the troops and their families.
Sponsors include the Los Angeles Lakers, Chevron, Continental Development Corporation, Rusnak, Kinecta, Beach Cities Masonic Lodge, Dickie and Mark Burton, Wright's, Anthony Yamada DDS, Michael Allmon & Associates, and the Song Institute of Allergy & Asthma.
Participants are asked to share their experience on social media using the hashtag #MBSalute.
