Ready to run? The 39th annual running of the Manhattan Beach Hometown 10K Run will take place on October 1, 2016 - but if you register now, you can take advantage of super early-bird savings.

Register by Sunday, July 10, and the cost is $30 for adults and $25 for children under age 15. On July 11, those prices go up to $35 for adults and $30 for youth. Wait longer and you'll pay more - the prices will go up again after September 19.

The Manhattan Beach Hometown 10k Run is purported to be the only top-100 10K race in the country without a major corporate sponsor. It was founded in 1978 by a group of local runners who wanted to have a race "in town." It has always been a partnership between the city of Manhattan Beach and the race committee. This partnership makes the race is a true community event.

Since the race's very beginnings, the profits have been directly returned to the community in the form of various health & fitness enhancements to the recreation facilities of local schools & parks, and scholarships to Manhattan Beach high school seniors.

An estimated 4,000 runners are expected to participate. Walkers are welcome but no strollers are allowed.

Adding to the hometown feel, the race celebrates its "P.I.E.R." group - "Participated in Every Race." These runners, who have run every Manhattan Beach 10K since the race's inception, wear special t-shirts as they run.
