It won't be just any old Sunday in Downtown Manhattan Beach on October 28: Crowds are expected to fill the streets for the SKECHERS Pier to Pier Friendship Walk, the Manhattan Beach Pumpkin Race, and downtown trick-or-treating.

The 3.4 mile SKECHERS walk, which starts at 9:00 a.m., raises funds for the Friendship Foundation for kids with special needs, as well as for local education foundations. The walk begins at the Manhattan Beach Pier, heads to the Hermosa Beach Pier, and then returns to a festival and entertainment back in Manhattan Beach.

Now in its tenth year, this year's walk is expected to surpass all previous records with a projected fundraising total of more than $2 million. The event has amassed a team of loyal celebrities, including Sugar Ray Leonard, Brooke Burke, Denise Austin, and Tommy Lasorda (who has attended the walk every year since its inception).

Teams from the education foundations of Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, El Segundo, Torrance, and Palos Verdes will all be on hand to raise funds for their respective foundations.

Starting at noon, pumpkins will begin whizzing down Manhattan Beach Boulevard toward the Manhattan Beach Pier as the 28th Annual Manhattan Beach Pumpkin Race begins. The race is free, but to participate you need a race-worthy pumpkin (a pumpkin with two axels and wheels). If you don't want to make your own, special pumpkin race kits are available at City Hall for $30, or at the festival at the pier on race day for $35.

The downtown trick-or-treating will last from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., while supplies last. Participating downtown merchants will have an orange trick-or-treat flyer posted in their windows. If your kids need a trick-or-treat bag, they can stop by the Downtown Manhattan Beach Business and Professionals Association booth at the festival and decorate a bag. (There will also be a chance to guess the weight of the giant pumpkin - and win it!).
