VetFest Beer-B-Que Returns for Second Year

Nov 06, 2019 09:02PM ● By Jeanne Fratello
The VetFest Beer-B-Que - an event that debuted last year to much acclaim - is returning for a second year this weekend.

VetFest, presented by Kinecta Federal Credit Union and the Manhattan Beach Rotary, will take place on Sunday, November 10 at Kinecta’s Manhattan Beach branch, located at 1440 Rosecrans Avenue. The event aims to honor local veterans, active duty military and first responders while participants enjoy beer, barbecue, and live music.

The public event features local craft brewers pouring 40 of their best IPA, amber, pilsner, stout, and saison; as well as "falling off the bone" Western-style BBQ with all the fixin's and Kinecta's famous Ice Cream Truck.

Featured local craft brewers will include LA Ale Works, Culture Brewing, Common Space, The Brewery at Abigaile, HopSaint, Hermosa Brewing Company, The Dudes, Upshift Brewing Company, Surfridge Brewing Co., Rock & Brews, Red Car Brewery & Restaurant, and Smog City Brewing.

The featured band will be "yacht rock sensation" Yachty by Nature. The event will also feature a cornhole tournament with up to $400 in cash prizes.

General admission to VetFest is $35. Veterans, active duty service members and first responders will be admitted free of charge. Guests must be 21 years or older to attend.

Net proceeds from the event will be donated to local groups that support veterans, including Team Rubicon and Operation Mend, as well as local scholarship programs and other local nonprofits.

Last year's inaugural VetFest was a rousing success, drawing crowds from around town as well as surprise guest Gene Simmons.

Simmons, the KISS frontman who is a partner in Rock & Brews, told the crowd, "As far as I'm concerned, every day is Veteran's Day."

All told, the event raised $22,500. In February, the organizations presented three checks, each for $7,500, to the veterans-related charities Team Rubicon, Bob Hope USO, and UCLA Operation Mend.
