Celebrate Earth Day All Week in Manhattan Beach

Additionally, the South Bay Eco Festival has moved online and is now featuring a variety of videos, music presentations, eco-shopping, and opportunities for action. The online event will continue through May 1.
Events on Earth Day, April 22
On the official Earth Day, Wednesday, April 22, there are a variety of local events and activities:
Keep it Green, Keep it Clean Live Earth Day Event: The Roundhouse Marine Studies Lab and Aquarium is holding an all-day event on Facebook in honor of Earth Day with postings on Facebook every hour on the hour starting at 8:00 a.m. Highlights include Earth Day tips, tank feedings, animal spotlights, crafts and more.
50 Years of Earth Day Conversation: Join local environmental leaders in a Zoom conversation from noon to 1:30 p.m. about living low impact, eco-consumerism, climate issues, and more. Panelists include Erica Galia of Rooted Beings; Ashleigh Frager of Back to Basics; Stephanie Cochrane of the Waste Less Shop; and Kim Martin, environmental lawyer, Grades of Green co-founder, and eco-habits blogger. This is a $10 donation-based virtual gathering. with all ticket proceeds going to the group's partner charity, The Thirst Project. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.

Earth Hour: Celebrate Earth Hour on from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in Manhattan Beach by turning off appliances and lights. Then step outside and appreciate the natural beauty of the sky and earth - and rest easy knowing you are making a difference in local emissions and energy use.
Celebrating Earth Day at Home
Other ideas for celebrating Earth Day at home include:
- Pick up litter
- Plant a tree or start a garden (remember that Deep Roots Garden Center and Floral Shop, as a nursery, is an essential business and is still open).
- Sign up for Heal The Bay's Knowledge Drops science education series.
- Build a birdhouse.
- Turn off lights and appliances, as appropriate, when you're not using them.
- Educate yourself on local recycling policies.
- Reduce food waste (and set your food waste out separately, tied in a bag, in your green trash bin).
- Switch to eco-friendly products and refillables (The Waste Less Shop is offering curbside pickup and local delivery).
- Use refillable water bottles rather than plastic (Tabula Rasa has fun Corkcicle canteens).
- Read Kim Martin's blog "Everyday Eco Habits for Everyday People."
