Limited Polliwog Park Re-Opening Called a Success

Manhattan Beach's Polliwog Park - Manhattan Beach, CA re-opened quietly over the weekend, with moderate crowds and only one citation.
City Manager Bruce Moe reported at Monday morning's City Council meeting that in general park visitors complied with the new restrictions, and there was only one person cited for consuming alcohol (the citation was given when the person continued after a warning).
Moe added that approximately 10 to 20 percent of visitors were not wearing face coverings, as required, and city staff gave 223 warnings to visitors to wear face coverings.
The city had approximately 17 staffers on hand, with three to five police officers each day, along with public works and parks and recreation staffers, said Moe.
"I am proud of the team that was out there," said Moe. "Overall I think we were successful with this first weekend."
The council had a brief discussion about face coverings, and Mayor Richard Montgomery asked city staffers to expand on the signage to clarify that face coverings were mandatory.
The city began its limited re-opening of the 18-acre Polliwog Park on Saturday morning with new signage and restrictions. The re-opening began a trial basis following extensive debate withing City Council.
