Mira Costa Seniors Take 'Sunset Stroll' on the Strand
Jun 11, 2020 10:25PM ● By Jeanne FratelloMira Costa High School's Class of 2020 will be a memorable one. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they experienced the school's first-ever drive-through commencement. And following the commencement, they launched what families hope will be a new annual tradition: a "sunset stroll on the Strand."
At 7:00 p.m., hundreds of Mira Costa seniors gathered at the Hermosa Beach Pier and marched together down the Strand toward the Manhattan Beach Pier.
The "stroll," organized by parents and students, was not a formal school event.
Along the way, the Strand was lined with cheering families and friends, many waving from balconies or perched on embankments.
After meeting up at the Manhattan Beach Pier, the graduates gathered on the sand for a graduation cap toss and pictures.

Editor's note: The decision about what to do - or what not to do - for Mira Costa High School's 2020 commencement was a complicated one. Discussions about commencement events had been going on ever since the pandemic began.
