Got Beach Trash? Win Cool Prizes
Sep 21, 2020 12:55PM ● By Jeanne FratelloHey, Manhattan Beach! Got beach trash? Here's your chance to turn it into treasure, with amazing prizes offered in this year's Found Objects Contest hosted by the Surfrider Foundation.
The premise is simple: Take the items that you have found (and cleaned up!) from your local beach. Arrange them in a creative or artistic way. Take a photo of your collection and share a brief (100 words or less) story about the photograph. The story can include activities, memories
or what you and your community are doing to protect the
beach.
Then post your photo to your Instagram or Twitter account, write your story,
and tag @surfrider and use the hashtag #SurfriderFound to be
entered in the contest. The contest deadline is October 16.
There are plenty of contests out there; why is DigMB sharing this one? First, it's International Coastal Cleanup Month, so this can be part of your motivation to do another beach cleanup. And second, these prizes are amazing - they're enough to motivate anyone to head down to to the beach:
1st Prize – $800 Value
A Firewire board and an annual Surfrider membership
2nd Prize – $400 Value
GoPro Hero 8 Black and an annual Surfrider membership
3rd prize – $200 Value
Ocean-Friendly Beach Kit: REN and Raw Elements Reef-Friendly Sunscreen,
SF Water Bottle, SF Hat, Collab Igloo Cooler, Nomadix Towel, Stasher
Bags; and an annual Surfrider membership.
Quick contest notes: The contest is open to ages 13 and up. Also, take all necessary precautions when doing your beach cleanup - Wear a mask, wear gloves, use a trash-picker if necessary, and thoroughly wash or sanitize your hands afterwards.
