Manhattan Beach Parents Asked to Weigh In on Return to School

Manhattan Beach parents: Don't miss this chance to weigh in on whether you would choose hybrid learning or 100% distance learning for your students.
Yes, the return to school for a potential hybrid learning scenario is complicated, and there's no date certain for such a scenario.
But Manhattan Beach Unified School District Superintendent Mike Matthews said in an email to parents this morning that he wants to "get the pulse of the community" on how parents are feeling at this time about sending their children back to school.
He sent a brief survey that asks parents whether they would choose hybrid learning for their students if given the chance, or stick with 100% distance learning for the remainder of the 2020/2021 school year.

Matthews said that he would share the results of the survey at this Wednesday's school board meeting.
In related news related to school reopenings:
- Some MBUSD students have begun to return to school through the high-needs hybrid program and for special needs assessments. The high-needs hybrid program will be steadily expanding from this point forward.
- MBUSD has almost completed its waiver application for TK-2 students to return to school. According to Matthews, meeting
the requirements of the county for this waiver is challenging, and only
four schools in the entire county had met all requirements as of last
week.
- When
L.A. County moves from the Purple Tier to the Red Tier (staying below 7.0
cases per 100,000 for at least four weeks), it is expected that the county will open up elementary schools for hybrid in-person learning. MBUSD is preparing its elementary schools (K-5) for that reopening, which some have said estimated happen as early as November (although there is no date certain).
