Battalion Chief Tyler Wade of the Manhattan Beach Fire Department delivers one of the first vaccines to a local educator through the Beach Cities Health District's vaccination center at Adventureplex in Manhattan Beach.

More than 30 percent of adults in Manhattan Beach have received at least their first COVID-19 vaccination, according to data released today from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

8774 people in Manhattan Beach, out of an (adult) population of 28,733, have begun or completed the vaccination process. (No vaccine has yet been approved for those individuals under age 16.)

Manhattan Beach's vaccination rate puts it in the very top tier of Los Angeles County cities. It is surpassed only by a handful of communities, including wealthy enclaves such as Bel Air (39.7%), Beverly Hills (38.2%), Brentwood (34.7%), Calabasas (32.9%), Palos Verdes Estates (35%), Rancho Palos Verdes (34.2%), Rolling Hills Estates (37.5%), and San Marino (35.5%).

As of Saturday, March 13, there have been a total of 1,249 COVID-19 cases in Manhattan Beach since the pandemic began.

Meanwhile, Manhattan Beach recorded two more COVID-19 deaths in the past week, bringing the official toll to 19 deaths.

“I send my deepest sympathies to everyone who is mourning a loved one lost to COVID-19," said L.A. County Director of Public Health Barbara Ferrer in a statement. "We have made good progress and have more progress to make. We urge everyone to use caution and good judgment in these next critical weeks and months to avoid surges in cases, hospitalizations, and deaths like we saw at the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021. Don’t let your guard down."

Ferrer and other state, county, and local leaders have urged residents to continue following all safety measures, stay masked, maintain at least a 6-foot distance from others, and remember that outdoor activities are safer than indoor ones.
