Meadows Families Race Around Manhattan Beach on a 'Wild Goose Chase'

Don't be surprised if you see Meadows Elementary School families racing around Manhattan Beach this weekend. They're on a "Wild Goose Chase" - a scavenger hunt that has them completing challenges and quizzes and enjoying neighborhood fun.
The event, hosted by the Meadows Elementary PTA, used the Goose Chase app to create challenges around the Meadows neighborhood for all Meadows students, families, and
Meadows alumni.
The scavenger hunt clues were created specifically for
the event by a group of PTA parents and board members. It is aimed at
challenging participants to get out and about in the neighborhood to
search for answers to over 35 missions.

missions include tasks such as finding the GPS location of Fire
Station #2, photographing the small “heart" in the pavement in Polliwog Park, answering trivia questions about the Manhattan Beach community and Meadows Elementary,
finding leprechauns and other inflatable decorations around the
neighborhood, doing a dance challenge, and so on.
In fact, one of the questions was inspired by the new "Bee Hotel" in the Manhattan Beach Botanical Garden that was created by a Mira Costa senior.
Organizers also included a nod to the Beach Cities Health District by making the educators' vaccine
site at AdventurePlex one of the locations on the hunt; and a nod to the Manhattan Beach Education Foundation
by making it the subject of one of the trivia questions.
The use of the Goose Chase app was donated
to the Meadows PTA by Boy Scout Pack 275, allowing the Meadows PTA to offer this activity to its families for free. Prizes for the event will be awarded to winning
teams on March 29.
"Working on this hunt has filled my heart with love for both
Meadows and our beautiful community," said Kimberly Rosenfeld, Meadows PTA co-president.
"In a year where the majority of
students and families have been learning off of campus until just
recently, our Meadows PTA board has worked hard to find ways to connect
to our families and make everyone feel the 'Meadows Pride,' Rosenfeld added. "Our theme this
year is 'Nothing is Impossible' and this motto has helped us overcome myriad challenges with connecting with our families."
As
with many Manhattan Beach elementary schools, Meadows has worked throughout the year to come up with creative ways to reinvent the school's programs,
fundraisers and events.
The school replaced its annual movie night on the
school’s field with a drive-in movie at the Roadium. Its annual
Halloween Haunt was spun into a drive-by event with costumes, free
pumpkins, goodie bags for all students and a drive-through photo booth.
("For many students, this event signified the first time they saw their
teachers in person, as teachers attended the drive through in costumes,
socially distanced to wave hello to their students," noted Rosenfeld.)
The school also hosted a holiday Gingerbread Party drive-by where students could
pick up their gingerbread kits to decorate, decorate their cars in
holiday decor, receive candy cane prizes and yeti stuffed animals. The event also featured snow from a snow machine to add to the holiday cheer.
"It has not been easy, but I couldn’t be more proud of all the things our PTA board, administration and staff have accomplished this year," said Rosenfeld.
