More than 40 Percent of Manhattan Beach Adults Have Received Vaccination

More than 40 percent of Manhattan Beach adults have now received at least their first vaccination, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
As of Friday, 12,021 Manhattan Beach residents, out of an (adult) population of
28,733, have begun or completed the vaccination process, bringing Manhattan Beach's adult vaccination rate to 41.8 percent. (No vaccine has
yet been approved for those individuals under age 16.)
The data covers vaccinations received through March
22, as released by LACDPH on March 26. The LACDPH has begun releasing vaccination
information every two weeks. Two weeks ago, Manhattan Beach had recorded 30.4% of adults vaccinated.
Manhattan Beach's vaccination rate puts it in the very top tier of Los
Angeles County cities. It is surpassed only by a handful of communities,
including wealthy enclaves such as Bel Air (46.7%), Beverly Hills
(45.5%), Brentwood (43.9%), Calabasas (42.2%), Palos Verdes Estates
(43.5%), Rancho Palos Verdes (42.7%), Rolling Hills Estates (46.7%), and
San Marino (45.1%).
According to data from the state of California, the rate of COVID-19 infections for households making less than $40,000 per year
(5.7) is 84 percent higher than that of households with an income of
$120,000 or more (3.1). At the same time, California’s wealthiest
populations have received 50 percent more vaccinations than the state's most vulnerable populations. The state is continuing to develop plans to direct vaccines to some of its hardest-to-reach communities.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Manhattan Beach has reported 1,273 COVID-19 cases and 20 deaths. Los Angeles County as a whole has reported 1,217,034 cases and 23,055 deaths.
More Tiers to Receive Vaccines
California is just days away from opening up large new tiers of vaccine eligibility.
Beginning April 1, all individuals in California over age 50 will be eligible for vaccinations; and as of April 15, all individuals aged 16 and over will be eligible.
Based on the current estimates, California expects to be
allocated approximately 2.5 million first and second doses per week in
the first half of April, and more than 3 million doses in the second
half of April. California currently receives about 1.8 million doses per
week. The state
has the capacity to administer more than 3 million vaccines per week,
and is building the capacity to administer 4 million vaccines weekly by
the end of April.
However, even with expanded vaccine supplies, it is expected to take several months for all willing Californians to be vaccinated.
