Manhattan Beach: Weigh in on Local Roadway Safety
Apr 08, 2021 02:26PM ● By Jeanne FratelloDo you know of a roadway or traffic issue that needs attention in Manhattan Beach? Here's your chance to weigh in.
The city of Manhattan Beach is conducting a Local Roadway Safety Plan (LSRP) survey. You can log your concerns or add your suggestions in the survey here.
The city's Local Roadway Safety Plan (LRSP) Project creates a framework to
systematically identify and analyze safety problems and recommend safety
improvements within the city. The specific work entails:
- Identifying potential safety issues with the city circulation system and pedestrian network;
- Analyzing accident records and determine the critical locations based on accident and injury type;
- Prioritizing roadway safety improvements, including pedestrian/bicycle and vehicular safety improvements; and
- Suggesting improvement types, such as Advanced Dilemma Zone Detection for high-speed approach, leading pedestrian intervals, mid-block pedestrian crossing improvement, etc.
An LRSP provides a framework for organizing stakeholders to identify,
analyze, and prioritize roadway safety improvements on local and rural
roads. The process of developing an LRSP can be tailored to local
protocols, needs, and issues.
The California Transportation Commission allocated $10 million in state funds in 2019, and another $8
million of state funds in June 2020, for the purpose of assisting local
agencies in developing their local roadway safety plans.
