Local NCL Group Partners with Seniors to Paint 'Portraits of Hope'
May 07, 2021 08:10AM ● By Mb News StaffThe South Bay chapter of the National Charity League - including
multiple mothers and daughters from Manhattan Beach - has partnered with
local seniors and Portraits of Hope on a collaborative painting project
to decorate the walls of senior centers.
Portraits of Hope
is an organization that conceives and develops one-of-a-kind brightly
colored art projects, most notably seen on the side of the Los Angeles
Convention Center.
Portraits of Hope's newest focus is on senior citizens who have been isolated due to the affects of COVID.
Through
this most recent project, called "Flower Panels," the volunteers and
the seniors have worked together to paint large panels with brightly
colored flowers.
NCL volunteers and their
parents have taken on the job of outlining flower petal shapes in pencil
onto a 16 x 16 panel, and then painting them with black acrylic paint.
All
told, NCL and POH have interacted with local seniors to produce over
300 flower panels that will adorn the walls of senior centers throughout
California.
National Charity League Inc.
is a group of mothers and teenage daughters who have come together in a
commitment to community service, leadership development and cultural
experiences. Each NCL chapter promotes social awareness by considering
the local community’s needs and selecting appropriate non-profit
organizations to serve. Each chapter then supports its philanthropic
service partners through different volunteer activities. (See more on
the NCL South Bay chapter's activities here.)
