City Reminds Residents that Fireworks are Illegal in Manhattan Beach

Jun 28, 2021 08:55AM ● By Mb News Staff
Manhattan Beach officials are reminding the public that it is illegal to possess or discharge fireworks of any type in the city.

Every year, the city receives reports of increased fireworks activity around the Independence Day holiday.

However, the manufacturing, possession, storage, sale, use, handling, and discharge of fireworks, including those defined as "safe and sane" fireworks, is a misdemeanor in Manhattan Beach. Those who light fireworks are subject to fines and will be liable for the expense of fighting a fire or expenses incurred during an incident.

The discharge of “safe and sane” fireworks is permitted only in communities where they are sold. Residents are encouraged to contact those communities for their guidelines. Again, however, Manhattan Beach does not permit the sale or discharge of fireworks.

The Manhattan Beach Fire Department urges residents not to place themselves or others in unsafe situations due to the illegal discharge of fireworks, and thanks those who cooperate with guidelines to make Manhattan Beach a safe community.
