Organizers Hope Golf Cart Parade Marks Start of a New Tradition
Jul 06, 2021 04:53PM ● By Jeanne FratelloA Fourth of July golf cart parade brought out more than two dozen decorated golf carts and raised $1,000 for Manhattan Beach Police and Fire Departments.
"We had a lot of fun," said Shawn Giaconi, organizer of the Manhattan Beach Golf Cart Crew. "We had over 25 carts which I was very happy about, considering the majority of people were out of town."
She added that Manhattan Beach City Councilmember Joe Franklin donated "Thank you MBPD & MBFD" signs for the parade.
Participants were encouraged to contribute $25 with their registration, to be donated to the Manhattan Beach Police and Fire Departments. The $1,000
raised will be split evenly between the two departments.
Giaconi said she and others are now looking to work with the city to plan a second annual Halloween golf cart parade, as well as possible future events.
She said she would be looking for sponsors to help cover
permit fees so the group could possibly have streets closed or an escort; as well as
want to include prizes for the decorated rides.
"I also would like to
include all electric vehicles - including bikes & scooters - so it could be a
super event," said Giaconi.
