Surf Festival and 6-Man Tournament Return to Manhattan Beach

Junior 6-Man Volleyball Tournament

The International Surf Festival and the 6-Man Volleyball Tournament return this weekend to Manhattan Beach, marking the busiest weekend in town since the pandemic began.

This weekend's lineup of events includes:

July 30-31: The famed Charlie Saikley 6-Man Volleyball Tournament will be held south of the Manhattan Beach Pier from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
August 1: The Junior 6-Man Tournament will be held south of the Manhattan Beach Pier from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
August 1: The Velzy-Stevens Paddleboard Race begins at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday morning at the Manhattan Beach Pier and ends at the Hermosa Beach Pier. The Dwight Crum Pier to Pier Swim begins at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday at the Hermosa Beach Pier and ends at the Manhattan Beach Pier.

Street Closures and Parking


The events are expected to draw thousands of participants and spectators to Downtown Manhattan Beach. Residents and visitors should note that certain streets will be closed; rideshare and bicycles are encouraged. 

Manhattan Beach Blvd. will be closed from Manhattan Ave. through to the Manhattan Beach Pier.  Ocean Drive will be closed between 11th and 12th Streets. (See the full street closure map here.) These closures will be in effect through Sunday, August 1. 

Additionally, there will be no public parking at the upper and lower Pier lots.

Rideshare loading zones are located outside of Skechers at Manhattan Beach Blvd. and Manhattan Ave.; on both sides of Manhattan Ave. at 10th St.; outside of City Hall on Highland Ave.; in front of the Metlox red dog on Manhattan Beach Blvd.; and on Valley Drive in front of the Vons. 

Related Community Events


During a weekend filled with activities, there are plenty of related sales and specials at local businesses. 

Brewco is celebrating its 30th anniversary during the month of July. For $30, you get a retro t-shirt, a Rat Beach Red Ale, and a burger of your choice. 

Esperanza is now open in Downtown Manhattan Beach on Manhattan Beach Blvd. (at the site of the former Sharks Cove). (See our full story on the Esperanza opening here.)

Gelato and Angels is featuring its brand new flavor for Summer 2021 - Fresh Peach Daquiri.

The Roundhouse Aquarium sandcastle contest is ongoing through July 31. Remember that you can build your sand creation anywhere; you just need to submit a picture.

Tabula Rasa is celebrating 6-Man weekend with a giveaway of a woven beach blanket with a bottle of Sun Bum (total $60 value). Details at Tabula Rasa Instagram @tabularasamb.

The Waste Less Shop is celebrating the end of #PlasticFreeJuly with a celebration on July 31 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Stop by for a special sale, free Champagne, build-your-own bouquets from J Flowers Redondo Beach, a braid bar from Salon Flourish, and a free gift if you register beforehand on Instagram at @thewastelessshop.

Last but not least, there's a new 16-foot high Bo Bridges mural at 12th and Highland (at Sugarfish) called "Break the Silence" - Check it out while you're in Downtown Manhattan Beach.  Bo Bridges Gallery is also offering free framing on all online and in-store orders through July 31.
