Manhattan Beach Gears Up For Hometown Fair

Sep 28, 2021 08:58AM ● By Jeanne Fratello

The Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair is set to return in person on October 2 and 3 with music, games, food, entertainment, crafts, and more.

This year's 49th Annual Hometown Fair will give the community a chance to come together safely while helping to raise funds for local non-profits and enjoying traditional fair fun.

"The Hometown Fair is a meaningful tradition for the community," Joe Marcy, president of the Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair Association, told DigMB. "There's a lot of excitement going into this weekend. We're grateful to be able to execute our event."

The Hometown Fair is a platform for organizations to fundraise and raise awareness. All food and drink purchases or paid games support local non-profits.

This year, the Beer Garden will help support Mira Costa High School’s Tech/Drama Boosters, Cross Country, Boys Indoor Volleyball, and Band. The Wine Garden will help support Leadership Manhattan Beach and the Neptunian Woman's Club. Individual organizations also host food and game booths to raise money for their groups.

Fairgoers will also find a wide range of free games across Dorsey Field and Kid Country (see schedule below). And along Valley Drive, local artisans will host more than 150 arts and crafts booths.

Additionally, this year there will be an extensive collection of fair memorabilia on display, as donated by the community. Visitors can check out the exhibit throughout the weekend at the Joslyn Community Center.

"Everyone has spent weeks preparing for this - including our artists, musicians and volunteers," said Marcy. "We can't wait to see you on the fairgrounds."

Attending the Fair

The Fair is located on Valley Drive between 15th and 21st Street. That area of Valley Drive will be closed down during fair weekend. Fair activities take place at Veterans Park as well as the Joslyn Center and both Live Oak Park and Dorsey Field.

Fair hours run from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Parking at the beach is always at a premium, so the fair provides visitors with free parking and free shuttle buses leaving from Kinecta Federal Credit Union at 1440 Rosecrans Ave, Manhattan Beach. The shuttle bus will be offered from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, running approximately every 20 minutes throughout each day.

(There will be one shuttle run at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday morning for vendors. The shuttle will then start operating again at about 8:00 a.m. for fairgoers after the conclusion of the MB 10K Race.)
