COVID Staff Shortages Cause Christmas Tree Pickup Delays
Jan 05, 2022 03:28PM ● By Jeanne FratelloIs your Christmas tree still sitting at the curb? If yes; don't be alarmed. COVID staff shortages at Waste Management have caused some delays in tree pickups in Manhattan Beach, but a final pickup round should cover everyone by January 8.
According to the city of Manhattan Beach, Waste Management
is experiencing COVID-related staffing issues but the company is working to make up for tree collection delays. For anyone experiencing a delay
in holiday tree collection, Waste Management will be
going back through its routes to retrieve missed trees.
Waste Management will also run a tree collection route this
Saturday, January 8, to ensure that any final trees are removed. January 8 will be the last day for tree pickup.
To report a missed pickup, contact Waste Management directly by phone at (310) 830-7100 or click
here to place a work order through the Government Outreach work order system (select topic "Refuse Services-Trash," then click "Make a Request" and complete/submit the online form.
Holiday tree recycling rules are as follows:
- Residents may place trees next to their carts before 7:30 a.m. on their regular collection date for free pick-up and recycling;
- Trees must be less than 7 feet long or cut into 7-foot sections (neither Waste Management nor City employees can cut trees for residents);
- All lights, decorations, tinsel, ornaments, and metal stands must be removed;
- Flocked trees will be collected at the curb but cannot be recycled.
