What's Happening During Ski Week in Manhattan Beach

As Manhattan Beach schools close for their traditional "Ski Week," (February 19-27), it may seem like everyone is leaving town. But if you're staying close to home, don't despair, because there are plenty of things to do all week long here in Manhattan Beach:


Friday, February 18


5:00 p.m.: Cheer on the Mira Costa Boys' Soccer team on the pitch at Mira Costa High School as they play Fullerton for the CIF Southern Section championship.

5:00 p.m.: Join Mark and Jenny Blatty of Byron Blatty Wines at Uncorked Wine Shop for a tasting of their limited-edition handcrafted wines made from sustainably farmed family-owned vineyards in Los Angeles County.

5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Enjoy live music at Zinc @ Shade with Keith Chagall, known for pop and rock sounds with a coastal vibe.

6:00 p.m.: Get ready for some great volleyball action with the Costa Alumni Indoor Volleyball match at the Mira Costa High School athletic complex. (Masks required; no tickets needed.)

9:00 - Midnight: Enjoy even more live music at Hennessey's Tavern with the classic and modern rock party band Detour.

Saturday, February 19


11:00 a.m.: Tacos and trucks: Head over to Manhattan Beach Toyota to learn about the new Tundra... and enjoy a free taco bar while you're there.

Noon: Peggy Curry of Curry Girls Kitchen and her family will be showing off her new cookbook "Damn Good Gluten Free" at pages: a bookstore. Join her for gluten-free bites and raffle prizes. RSVP for the event here.

1:00 p.m.: Experience a live painting session with artist Charles Lynn Bragg at the Manhattan Beach Art Center. You can have a chance to ask him questions while he works and talks about the pieces in his current exhibit. See more on the Charles Lynn Bragg exhibit here.


2:00-5:00 p.m.: Enjoy live music from Pricey Diggs, a duo that glides through R&B, Latin, reggae, jazz, country, pop, funk, and rock sounds, at Zinc @ Shade Hotel.

9:00 p.m.-1:00 a.m.: Check out Joker's Hand, a Torrance-based retro-rock/punk duo, as they play a live set at Hennessey's Tavern.

Sunday, February 20


Noon: Indulge in a sound bath, the ultimate sensory and relaxing experience, with Delia Hogan of Submission Sound Healing at Yoga Loft. This acoustic vibrational healing journey is said to relax the body, clear the subconscious, calm the mind and activate your body’s natural internal healing system. The event is $45; register here.


1:00-4:00 p.m.: Enjoy live music from B.J. Arnold, acoustic rock guitarist and singer, at Zinc @ Shade Hotel.


Monday, February 21


11:30 a.m.: Brewco is offering flights of Russian River Beers, including its famous Pliny the Younger. Starting at 11:30 a.m., come and try a flight of Intinction, Temptation, Pliny the Elder, and Pliny the Younger. The cost is $20 per flight, while supplies last.

Tuesday, February 22


11:00-2:00 p.m.: Join the Roundhouse Marine Studies Lab and Aquarium at the Manhattan Beach Farmers Market and enjoy hands-on learning about our local sea creatures. Then stick around at the farmers' market until as late as 3:00 p.m. to shop from all of the other vendors, including fresh local produce, fisherman's catch of the day, locally made chocolate, vegan pastries, Greek, Mexican, Italian, Argentinian, Korean food, and more.


Wednesday, February 23


5:00 p.m.: Enjoy live music from Pricey Diggs, a duo that features R&B, Latin, reggae, jazz, country, pop, funk, and rock sounds, at mbWINEco.

Saturday, February 26


6:00-11:00 p.m.: The Mira Costa Boys' Lacrosse Team is hosting a Texas Hold 'Em Tournament at Los Angeles Ale Works in Hawthorne. Your $100 buy-in gets you starter chips, food and a beer. There will be multiple opportunities to re-buy, plus Mira Costa swag for the final table. The winner and the runner up will receive cash prizes.  Register and pay using this Poker Tournament link.


Sunday, February 27


3:00-7:00 p.m.:The week isn't over yet! On Sunday, Zinc @ Shade Hotel will be hosting a Mardi Gras party from with New Orleans-themed food and special Mardi Gras cocktails. There will be performances by Beaucoup Brass Band, featuring members of the Mudbug Brass Band. Call 310-698-5559 to reserve a spot.
