RE: Her Aims to Empower Women in Restaurant Industry
Regarding Her or RE:Her is a national non-profit driven by women
restaurateurs on a mission to empower and advance women-identifying
food and drink entrepreneurs.
Dina Samson, left, and Sylvie Gabriele, two of the co-founders of Regarding Her, at the James Beard Foundation awards ceremony in 2021.
The organization
strives to create opportunities for
connection and success by way of programs that support, unite and uplift
female food and beverage entrepreneurs in Los Angeles and beyond. The
group offers women-owned culinary businesses access to grants,
industry-focused resources, and virtual and physical events, including
an annual restaurant festival.
In November 2020, the
founding members of RE:Her sought to raise money so that the organization could
provide cash grants to female-identifying restaurants or culinary
businesses with critical financial needs during the Covid-19 pandemic.
RE:Her's inaugural festival, 10 Days RE:Her, debuted in January 2021. Nearly 100 female-owned
restaurants and women-run food and beverage brands came together to
offer 85 events across Los Angeles County.
In May 2021, the organization announced the launch of its grant program with the Regarding Her Relief Grant, sponsored by DoorDash.
In July 2021, RE:Her distributed 15 cash grants of $10,000 each to
female-identifying food and beverage entrepreneurs in LA County, which
recipients can use to bolster their business however they see fit.
The organization has since grown to include more than 300 members across L.A. County.
