The Mira Costa High School Indoor Drumline, making its first appearance at the Southern California Percussion Alliance Championship Finals in Ontario on Saturday, garnered an impressive ninth-place finish.

The Southern California Percussion Alliance Championship is the largest percussion competition in the western United States, and this was Mira Costa's first appearance in the finals.

The Mira Costa team scored 85.988 out of a possible 100. All told, Mira Costa's ninth-place ranking was among 54 other high school teams in its division.

Led by Percussion Director Kevin Tran, the Mira Costa Drumline is a performance team that uses a range of percussion instruments.

Typically student musicians who participate in marching band in the first semester participate in the drumline during the second semester. Many students who play woodwinds or brass transition to percussion instruments just during this class. Students receive PE credit for both marching band (fall semester) and drumline (second semester).
