Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair Announces New Leadership

Oct 28, 2022 09:46AM ● By Mb News Staff
The Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair Association this week voted to approve new leadership
for 2023.  The new 2023 Executive Board includes:

President: Dana Old
Vice President: Renee Hall Jansen
Treasurer: Jeanna Harkenrider
Secretary: Karen Tokashiki
Member at Large: Mark Finley

Incoming president Dana Old is a Manhattan Beach native. Growing up, she was active in Mira
Costa athletics and ASB. Currently, she’s a leadership and communication coach and president of Studio DTO. (She can often be seen walking around Downtown Manhattan Beach with her husband, Tyler, and son, Andy.)

The board also re-elected incumbents Jeanna Harkenrider and Karen Tokashiki. Renee Hall Jansen and Mark Finley are new to the executive board; however, they are longtime volunteers with the organization.

Outgoing president Joe Marcy, who served a full three-year term as president, will transition into another role with the fair. Marcy expressed his thanks to the group as he led his last board meeting on Tuesday.

Three years ago, the organization made history installing Marcy, its youngest and first openly gay president. Marcy had a unique term, overseeing the organization through a virtual fair, a modified pandemic fair and its biggest celebration ever - the 50th annual fair, held earlier this month, which broke records for the organization.

Throughout Marcy's term, the fair also distributed more than 30 grants to local booster clubs and non-profits during COVID; won the “Best of Manhattan” Positive Pandemic Pivot Award from the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce; incorporated Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) into the organization’s initiatives, mission and bylaws; and established a long-term strategic plan and board retreat.

There is one board position open for 2023: Director of Traffic/Security. Those interested in the position can apply at mbfair.org.

The 2023 Hometown Fair will take place on Saturday and Sunday, October 7 and 8,.
