Mira Costa Drama/Tech Department Brings Home Trophies

Mira Costa's Drama/Tech Department has brought home a pile of trophies from last weekend's prestigious Fullerton College High School Theatre Festival.

 

At the festival - the first one held in person since 2019 - more than 30 Southern California high schools competed in dozens of categories over the span of 2 days.

"We are so proud of our Drama/Tech department for their strong performances this weekend," said Desiree Brown, the VP of publicity for Mira Costa Drama/Tech Boosters.

 

Mira Costa's Green Team and Gold Team won awards in multiple categories, with the Green Team being named the 2023 Overall Tech Olympics Winners. 

The Green and Gold Teams won the following awards:

1st Place Electrical Wiring: Green Team
2nd Place Electrical Wiring: Gold Team
1st Place Tool and Hardware ID: Gold Team
3rd Place Knot Tying: Gold Team
1st Place Props Quick Change: Gold Team
3rd Place Props Quick Change: Green Team
1st Place Tool Relay: Green Team
1st Place Drapery Hanging: Green Team
2nd Place Drapery Hanging: Gold Team

The Green Team consisted of Lenore Booth, Jia Hauck, Maddie Phan, Sarah Tonne, Daniel Suarez, and Diana Cruz.

The Gold Team consisted of Taylor Bennett, Frankie Kraus, Elsa Rochelson, Sam Wilson, and Sarah Dobbins.

Meanwhile, four Mira Costa Drama entries placed in the top three: 

1st Place - Modern Ensemble – Humorous (Teddy Glozman & Abby Brown)
2nd place - Contemporary Ensemble Humorous (Lizzy Fleming & Lia DeFonce-Martini)
3rd Place - Modern Monologue – Dramatic (Dean Spurgeon)
3rd Place – Modern Ensemble – Dramatic (Siena Fredrick & Chris Halkias)

Furthermore, Mira Costa's drama teams were finalists in 11 categories including:

Musical Theatre
Classic Ensemble – Dramatic or Humorous
Classic Monologue – Dramatic
Contemporary Monologue – Dramatic
Theatre Games
Modern Monologue – Humorous
Acting for the Camera

Mira Costa Drama/Tech students will take center stage in April for their production of "Mamma Mia!", which will take place at Mira Costa High School on April 21-22 and April 26-29.
